I had the pleasure of working with Ben Johnson as an actor in Hollywood towards the end of his career, and he was a joy to behold. Kind, thoughtful and a real genuine individual. He had this wonderful way about him of including you in his life... Hollywood could take a lesson.

Ben Johnson always played very real people. This, The Wild Bunch, The Sugarland Express, and even in that awful Terms of Endearment sequel The Evening Star he did great. Imagine him playing in an action or crime flick set in NYC or LA!

So the story goes, Bogdanovich wanted Johnson but Ben saw the script and said, " Too many words. " Peter phoned John Ford, who had directed Johnson many times. Ford told Peter not to worry. He'd talk with Ben. Fifteen minutes later, Johnson phoned and said, " You sicced the Boss on me! " Johnson did play the role and won the Oscar.

I saw this movie when it came out and I come back to it a lot as I get older. It epitomizes men in their older years when every day brings them closer to their destiny. " We ought to go to a real fishing tank next year. Oh, ought not think about things like that too much. " To me that line pretty much describes his mortality. He may have had some warning that his health was fading. I don't know that for a fact, but, shortly after he's dead.

i dont like the music from this movie. i think if they redid the movie with a different soundtrack it would be even better
